and the doctor said…

Ice, Ice, Ice and do what I can and there’s no shame in turning around if I feel I can’t do it. So before I went to the doctor I did my run or what I could do which really stunk. I went 1.5 miles in 18 minutes and hurt the entire way. So quit, walked back to the car and pouted and fussed and came home. I got home and Mike said call my chiropractor and talk to him, see what he has to say. I can afford a call so did that and he of course said come in, I can’t do that but he said come anyways and pay later when I can. So I went and I took my shoes with so he could see what I’m wearing and what I felt like. He did his thing and said my lower disc is severely swollen and my neck was out of whack so he fixed what he could and told me now it’s up to the healing, icing and do what I think I can with a smart head, not the stubborn one. He says I also need orthopedic things for my shoes for my arches, at a tune of $200.00. I’m hoping the things at Wal-mart will help some. Maybe I need to find that machine they show on TV that analyses the foot and tells you want you need for a fraction of what I’ll have to pay from him though I know the ones he makes are made for me.

So the race is on tomorrow but with the smart head and I will listen to my body. I have to cuz I hate this hurting even though it’s not terrible just annoying.

Just wanted to update you all. Hope all is good with you. Take care and have a blessed weekend.

Here I am coming and going…trying!!!

Our SIL does those inserts and charges us only his cost which is $135! The things at Walmart are $50 and I have heard good reports from people who have done the machine and bought the inserts. I think the two are pretty similar.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow! Maybe you can tie the ice bags onto your ankle while you're running? LOL I know, but wouldn't that be awesome?

Julie, there is a shoe company called FootSmart where I order nearly all my shoes. They have a kit you can order and make imprints of your feet, then they make custom orthotic inserts for your shoes. They are just like the ones I got through my podiatrist, only cheaper. Theirs are only $89 right now, normally $99. The web address is footsmart.com. Check it out.

So sorry. That sucks that you can´t run without pain. I hope it will heal soon.

You can do the foot test witih the Dr. Scholls and it's like 50 bucks. YOu can do the Footsmart one.

But try correct shoes first. Find out if you are a pronator, etc, and get shoes for the type of foot you have.

I don't know if they still have it, but go to the Brooks shoes site and take the quiz. That's one step. I used it to order shoes years ago to help my Fasciitis...those worked great.

The Dr. Scholl's foot analysis will also let you know. Check your CVS/pharmacy for that.

I'm icing my food as I type. Went and twisted my ankle being a careless doofus....ah well...

Let's heal, yes?

Oh, and not to be a downer, but just cause I'm so againt injuring oneself in a quest for health, but maybe consider an exercise that's a lot gentler on the spine/legs/feet. Really...reconsider...think...

What Mir Said!! Proper shoes are a must. I have a severe pronation, and wear special shoes in addition to orthotic inserts. Yeah, mine are custom - were prescribed by my doctor and covered by our health insurance.

Gentler is good. That's why I ride a bike instead of running. :)

LOVE the picture of your running trail! How pretty!

I am so sorry you are in so much pain. I know tomorrow is your big run and now this. Be careful Julie. I can;t advise on shoes or the orthotics, but, be sensible. Go only if you really can. I will be cheering you on in either case, from a distance of course!

Awww. :( There's definitely no shame at all in listening to your body- in fact, it's super wise! Hope you feel better tomorrow, and remember there will always be other races but we only get this one body! :)

I'm sorry Julie. My doctor once told me I needed orthopedic things too. I used them for awhile, and it helped, but then I found shoes that are specially shaped for women's feet, and ever since I've used them my arches haven't hurt at all while running. What size shoe do you wear, Julie?
