Thumper….Week 1 of E2E…

Yep, this was not the best week for me doing what I need to do. My weight tells me so, my waist tells me so and my whole outlook tells me so. I did 1, yep just 1 day of tracking…stupid I know, I did 3 days of exercise which was great because each time was at least 900 calories used up but what good is used up calories when you don’t watch the rest? I sorta was waiting for Allan and his new food plan but that didn’t happen so I just need to buckle down and get my menus planned and stick to it. I have my period from hell this week and it’s finally coming to an end but the migraine that came with it was terrible, the bloating and weight gain wasn’t anything like it’s been the past three months, and having Mike home all week made for a bit heavier meals then usual but most of this is my fault, it’s not nature, it’s not home, it’s not work, it’s me and I need to get me back on track. I know there are others out there that deal with a life style that is busy beyond belief, I worked 78 hours this week but I’m not the only one that does that and part of those hours are from home so can’t even say I was gone. and they still lose weight. I know a lot of you get up super early to get to the gym and have that did and done for the day and I do that too, most of the time….today not, the alarm went off twice and I just finally shut it off. I’m going to go tonight with my dad but when I take him it’s a slower work out because I’m constantly checking on him, again no complaints I just know it won’t be a 900 calorie workout. I guess it’s really time to just put out a notebook and start writing up weekly goals. Time to look at it each morning and have it planned day to day instead of waking up to a blank page.

So my stats for this week’s weigh in and measurements are horrible but I’m not about to fudge about it so my weight is 180.1 and my waist grew an inch to 40”, mostly bloating from my period but I’m sure not all of that either. I have been reading my book every single night and am loving the humor and information she’s provides for learning to run. I am just getting into the food part of the book so next week will learn a bit about that. I do need new shoes but that’s not in the budget at all so will just keep running with the old ones and one day after Mike is in school and settled then I’ll go to a running store and spend money on me. She has a guide for learning to run a half marathon or a full one and since I’m just wanting to run a 5K I’m just starting out in the beginning of her schedule. It means heading out twice a day for a run, the beginning is a 35 morning run and a 40 minute evening run. I’ve been getting in at least one a day and next week will do two so I can really get going on this. I did get in 10 miles of running this week at 5mph and 5 miles of walking. I have stopped by all of your blogs at least one (at least I hope I did, I tried to leave a comment on everyone’s at least once), I’ve been chatting with Casey and now you want to talk about a busy woman, she’s got that and more. I love having a challenge buddy and once we really get a chance to know each other I think we’ll be great friends and life style change coaches for each other.

So I am going to make goals for next week. I’m going to do it one week at a time instead of one that’s to last the full challenge. It’s not working for me this time so one day at a time, one week at a time.

1. To get a menu plan and tracked by shopping on Sunday.

2. To follow said menu to the “T”!!

3. To track every single morsel that heads to the stomach.

4. To get to the gym 3 times and get a great work out in that burns at least 900 calories. That means at the gym at 5am. Running for 40 minutes and strength training.

5. To walk and hopefully run 30 minutes 3x a week after daycare. It is dark then but even if I just take a walk and get in an extra 2 miles would be awesome.

6. For this week to lose the extra pounds I put back on and get back to the 175 I was so happy to have seen.

7. To get back under a 40” waist. My pants are telling me that I’ve grown this week.

All doable goals, things I’ve been doing except not greatly like I was. I think because I changed my mindset a little bit, not totally focused on my weight just running, has made a difference so I just need to get back into doing the diet and running and get someplace I want to be.

I want to thank every one for their help with my question this week and then also for Angela for a great post all about eating and exercise. That was awesome from all of you. I’m working on finding the right combination for me.

So that my friends is my 1st update in the E2E challenge and for me there’s only one way to go and that’s up cuz I’m at the bottom right now but I know that I can do this, I’ve done it. Just gotta plan a lot better and then follow it.

I promise to get back to where you’re proud of what I’ve done, what I’m doing and where I’m headed. This is a learning challenge and that’s what I’m learning but this weeks report card says I have some great improvements needed.

Julie, I'm sorry your week didn't go as planned. I'm waiting until tomorrow to give my update in the hopes that there will be some positive changes by then. I know how you are feeling but try to focus on the things you did right rather than on the areas where you are disappointed. I bet next week will be a better week for everyone. This is an adjustment week and we are all just getting used to the new routine. It will get better and easier as we go along. Hang in there and I bet you will have more good news next week. Hugs.

Those really are some very good goals, you can definitely reach all of them. I haven't set small tangible weekly goals since before Christmas and well - it shows. Targeted planning = success. Best wishes! :)

When I really want to stick to a goal I either put it on a sticky note, or on the wallpaper on my phone, that way it's always in my face and I can't ignore it.

Hope you get back on track the way you want to and find yourself a happy rhythm of good food and workouts.

Hey - don't be down on yourself! I couldn't do all that you're doing! I struggle to work 40 hours a week and get a 45-minute workout in most days. I think you're doing a really good job managing your time and making time for yourself and your goals on top of all the other work you do. I've had a huge problem getting up in the morning this week too! Try to give yourself some props so you can feel good about yourself and all you do!

I've been going out twice each day too. And my knee stopped hurting yesterday. But I'm too scared to run on it just yet. It may have just been a piece of cartilage that finally broke down and went away. I hope.

We can't have perfect weeks every time. So do not beat yourself up about it. Just do your best and that will be great! One day at a time!

Hey silly! The calories for the pumpkin smoothie I posted today are right at the top of the post before the pictures! I guess I didn't label it 'calories', but that's what it is - the counts are right down to the cinnamon and ginger! :)

Sorry you feel bad about this week, but it looks like you have a plan to make next week a success. Maybe you can focus on one day at a time with that days schedule and goals on paper to help with fit exercising into your day. Hang in there and lets work together for a better week ahead!

Bad weeks happen. Good weeks follow. I totally expect you to kick wonderful diet butt next week and get your stride going again, meals-wise.

Don't ever wait for Allan or anyone. It's your diet, you need to plan it out to your caloric range, your food preferences, your sustainability. In 2012, aim for you own sensible plan. You know how it goes from your challenges and reading. A lot of veggies. Good protein. An eye on calories (not too few to send the body into a weird state and not too many to cause regain). Healthy fats. Fiber. Lots of water/fluids. Supplements as needed or recommended by your doc.

YOu can create a great meal plan. You have the tools and the wits. :D

Hey, doesn't working so many hours, even if at home, burn some calories? I don't see how you do it all, and so if you can't work tracking in every day, or exercise, it doesn't mean it's out of your focus. Things change, that's for sure, and next week will be different. By the way, I like your goals. None are off the charts. Hugs!

I'm with Jo on this! All those hours amount to something you know! It's not always easy, I know how that feels. That's when I usually fail and just give up.. I'm glad you're not doing that!

JULIE!!!! I dont see your week as a failure, but I think you do.... Here is one of my E2E quotes.....Failure is not important unless it's the last time you try........... and HOLY cow!! You work so many hours!!! Your body needs rest!!!!
And about Allan.. I know you put a lot of faith in him, and hes helped you in the past......BUT!! You know how to do this!!! Youre a smart cookie!!! (ok bad choice of words) But you know what I mean! AND!! 5.0 Girl!!! You rock!!!!

The bloating will pass and some of that gain is water and will pass. I like that you're setting your goals for yourself daily and yes all the activity you do for your daycare is activity too. I'm sure you can get this going..but don't forget that rest and sleep is needed too.

I'm sorry you're disappointed with your week but today is a new day. I am the one who struggles with getting exercise in but I've been reading some on it and you don't have to have 900 calorie workouts to accomplish good things. Of course, it's fabulous when you can do that. Chin up and have a great weekend. :)

Great goals, you are working hard maybe you aren't eating enough or you are eating too much. Gotta find that balance and you should definitely burn with all that exercise you do get in. I love to see how far you run, is it straight running that you do? I ask cause I think running for a minute is hard so right now I can't imagine running for 30 minutes straight! You ROCK, whether you see that on the scale or not you need to know that within:-)

I'm sorry your week didn't go as planned, but you shouldn't be so hard on yourself!! There are always going to be hard times and low times, no matter what is done. The point is to get back on your feet the next day and do the best you can do for that day. No one is perfect. :) I think it sounds like you had a good week. Just keep your eyes on the positive instead of the negative. :)
