I gained 2 lbs this week, back up to 179.4 but it’s also that time of the month and my sweet tooth has kicked in so I’ve indulged a bit not terrible but some. I made some toffee this week with a new recipe and ate a few pieces plus Mike bought some red licorice for our hike yesterday so stole a few piece of them also. Now today was hard, no sugar other than what’s in the foods I eat and today was minimal because of the indulges but I know better and I know just a couple days of indulging in sugar takes almost a week to get it back out of my system. I’ll do it.
My book is awesome, I’m learning quite abit about turning 50, mentalpause (like my new word) because though my body is changing my mind has a lot to do with it also. I’m still learning about Thyroid Disease and what I can do.
I am heading to my doctor on Tuesday, my regular doctor. Just for a second opinion. I want to know what he thinks and just have him know what’s going on too. My mama and aunt have had issues with varicose veins and blood clots and hospital stays and …. well lots of stuff so just to be sure all is okay I’m going to go get checked out. It is not something I can afford to do but I also can’t afford to have to have time off or being down or worse dead so I’ll go and see what’s what.
Earlier this week I asked for help and a few of you offered some sweet and great comments and suggestions, I really appreciated them all. It helped me to see and figure out so there is no more woe is me. I do have to say I asked for help on the CDCC post this week and not to many of you stopped by to offer any advice and I did think that this challenge was about support and advice and more. I know we’re all busy so that’s fine but do check in and see how others are doing because some really do need help, love, advice, support and more.
I have no intentions of ever giving up. I really want to get into that dress but it may or may not happen but the point of any life style change or diet or whatever it is that’s helping you become the healthiest you can be is what’s important and that’s what I’m doing, not giving up.
So there’s my Christmas Dress Count Down Challenge update.
I will stop by each and everyone of you, like I do each week at least once and wish you the best of luck, kick your butt, offer any advice I might of learned along the way or just be there for you. Take care my friends and have a great and blessed week.

Julie, getting a second opinion is probably a really good idea. I hope to see a loss from you next week :)
I'm sorry you have a regain. Do try to find good ways to deal with those period cravings. I remember those well enough, but as long as you have a menses, you'll need to find a way to cope...using smarter treats to satisfy without derailing you, right? I do believe in allowing a treat, as long as it's not a trigger for more. As long as it serves it's purpose (calming the raging PMS beast with a taste of delight, but ideally without sugar, natch, and with not a whole lotta splurge calories.)
But TOM bloast is temorary. :D
Because I'm eating more calories with the added protein/flax as I try to fix the metabolism and wasn't able to exercise (bum leg, still healing), I expect a temporary weight gain. Well, hopefully temporary. I was doing lower carb and now my protein shakes have more carbs, so my glycogen stores will reload and water retention will probably follow. Well, that's what I think, as I feel "bloatier", but we'll see. I'll know soon enough.
Keep it up, sweet lady. You've done well. YOu're not obese anymore. You can make more progress, but really, I don't think you need to go all that much farther. You will know when it's time to hold on, but it's not far away.
Be well...
A long time ago I made it a rule to never weigh myself during the week of that time of the month. That's just me, but I just can't or I know I'd get depressed. Getting a second opinion is always a good idea. I hope he can help you somehow. Enjoy your Sunday my friend. :)
I tryto avoid weighing myself during that time of the month, although I can rarely keep myself from doing it.. It's a messed up time though, so I wouldn't make too much of those 2lb!
I'm glad you're taking precautions about your health, that is so important!
I like the comments about not weighing during that time of month. I am going through that too. I always wonder if it is i my head. Oh it's that time of month I can have chocolate!
Julie, you are a rockstar on supporting all of us. I know I really appreciate it. Sorry to not have been there when you needed it.
Take care my friend. Tina
Julie, after you get to maintenance, and after you get your body and appetite accustomed to it, you will find a comfortable place where you don't have to work so hard at the exercise, and you can eat more of the (nutritious) foods you love, just in moderate portions. You are doing great, and are one I admire for staying with it, even though we all have "those" times when we are tired of working at it so hard.
Don't beat yourself up! Water gain is temporary and your body is not cooperating at the moment, so it is difficult to keep your head in the game. See what the doctor says and then you can get yourself back on track. One day at a time....baby steps. You can do it!
I've been meaning to tell you that some of your pictures remind me of my sister in law....you look very much alike!
I so appreciate all your kind comments on my blog. I will admit that I did not pick up on the fact that you were needing help with the challenge. I'm not part of that and I don't even own a dress but I would have tried to help. :)
My very best suggestion is just to keep plugging along doing the best you can. The work never really ends if you have a problem with food like we do. Thanks again.
I can relate! I am not giving up, but sometimes things don't go as I would like or anticipated.
Keep it up and there will be a day when that dress fits again!
I think you are wise in getting a 2nd opinion. Glad you are enjoying your book. I am gettin into mine. I think I was avoiding it for fear of actually having to deal with my food issues. I am sorry I am not been as supportive as I should have been.
Lots of great comments above. I like the fact that you know what you did (indulged in some treats) and know will be okay. Yes, a little up. But that is temporary. I am glad you have no intention of giving up. We can't. This is for life.
Remind me what book you are reading when you have a chance.
Wasn't it just great weather this weekend?? Have a great week!
michele
I'm sorry I didn't reply to your other post. I was traveling and not reading or I surely would have.
Maybe you still need the support, maybe things are easier right now, but I'll write what I would have then-
This journey can be overwhelming. It can seem so long, and that can be demoralizing. But remember how far you've come! Not just numbers-wise but your fitness and the 5ks, too.
Also... you are an amazing lady! You are clearly so busy, work so hard, and are there for tons of people. So know that even when the funks happen, you have support and we'll get through it and back to a place where it feels awesome again.
Have a great week too, Julie. :) We can, and will, keep going and do this. Best of luck with the doctor.
You will see your losses next week, I'm sure. Darn that TOM!! I guess one on the things we have to look forward to with "the chnge of life" is not having to deal with TOM anymore. Please try to drink a little more water and just keep doing what you are doing...I know the loss will show next week!
The important thing to remember is every day is a new beginning. This is the toughest time of year to carry through with a diet. Hang in there and take it day by day! You have already accomplished so much!
Hope the dr. gives you some more insight of what is going on. Your in my prayers. I go Weds. to get my sonogram for the lump in my stomach and I'm a nervous wreck!
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Jill
I know all to well about excess sugar during the week, but keep at it. At least you know how long it takes your body to recover. Once you know that it's easier not to get down when it takes a little time to come off.
Mentalpause = love it. I mean, the word, not what it is putting your body through.
You have a very good perspective and the smarts to go seek advice, research and DO SOMETHING about what is frustrating or road blocking your progress.... kudos for that!
Ugh on the gain, but, TOM is no fun.
Julie, sorry to hear you were having such a hard week. You're always so supportive to all of us so I can imagine how "lonely" you must have felt when you needed that support/advice from us. I wish I had been around to at least be a listening ear for you. I've only caught up on a couple of your previous posts and have a lot more to catch up with but just wanted to stop by and say I hope this week goes better for you.
When you get the urges for sweets, have you tried eating something salty instead? That's what I used to do and it helped a lot.
It's never a bad idea to get a second opinion! I kept telling my dad that and he finally figured out that it was good advice! Keep me posted!
And I know you better not give up because you are my inspiration!
Like I've said in the past I too have hypothyroid & now that it's in control all is good. It doesn't really have to be that bad if the 2nd opinion matches the first, just keep that in mind. Once it's regulated your metabolism should work better also & if you do what you gotta do & avoid the treats you'll start losing again ;-)
